Poppy – from bread crumbs to belly rubs

Poppy and her sister Dolly were rescued as tiny babies, when one of our volunteers found them underneath a car, eating breadcrumbs.

That is how hungry they were after being mercilessly abandoned to fend for themselves at barely six weeks old.

Was their only crime being little girls?

In a society that still hasn’t understood that spaying and neutering pets is the only way to stop this endless cycle of suffering, stories like theirs continue to happen. Despite the many spay campaigns we put so much effort into organising regularly, we are still contacted about abandoned little babies almost every single day.

These two wonderful sweethearts certainly didn’t deserve such a start in life.

As we couldn’t just leave them to their fate, that chapter is behind them now. Poppy and Dolly are safe in foster care, growing beautifully and enjoying all the good kitty food their little bellies could possibly desire. 

Both girls are absolutely gorgeous and wonderfully sweet, and they each have their own personality and need to be understood and loved as individuals.

 Poppy is the slightly more cautious sister. She needs a little time to decide that a new human can be trusted, but once she does, the purr motor switches on and she can enjoy cuddles and affection just as much as her braver sister.

 Dolly is the more confident of the two and usually starts her little purr motor very quickly once the attention and cuddles begin. 

Like all kittens, they both love to play – with each other, with their toys and, naturally, with anything else they decide qualifies as entertainment. 

They have grown up together and get along beautifully, so Poppy and Dolly would make a wonderful little ready-made pair for someone who falls in love with both of them. 

Both girls are looking for an indoor-only home, or a home with access to a secure catio or properly cat-proofed garden, where they can safely enjoy the rest of their kittenhood – followed, naturally, by a very long and thoroughly spoiled life. 

She can be adopted together with Dolly or separately, as long as there is already another friendly cat in her future home.

 The girls have not been tested with dogs, but we believe they could live happily with a calm, cat-friendly dog following careful and properly managed introductions.

Poppy’s story began underneath a car, hungry enough to survive on breadcrumbs.

Poppy will come home fully vaccinated, microchipped, tested for FIV / Felv, neutered and health checked.

All TGC rescued animals are treated regularly for internal and external parasites.
